Uncovering the genomic structure of the Leptosphaeria maculans population in Australia

Biography

Dhwani completed her Bachelor in Biotechnology (Hons I) with a major in microbial biotechnology from the University of Queensland in 2011. As part of her undergraduate degree, she was awarded the UQ Abroad Scholarship that enabled her to study abroad at the University of Washington, Seattle in 2009. She then went on to complete her PhD in 2015 under the supervision of Prof Jacqueline Batley. Her PhD thesis focused on characterising the genome and population diversity of the fungal pathogen of canola, Leptosphaeria maculans. A major component of her project involved analysing next-generation sequencing data to characterise the genomic structure of the pathogen and using SNPs as markers to study the population diversity of the pathogen on a national scale.
