My Story

In 2018, I completed my Bachelor of Technology in Genetic Engineering from the SRM Institute of Science and Technology, India. As part of my bachelor's thesis, I joined Dr. Dorothea Bartels' research group at IMBIO, University of Bonn, Germany, as an exchange student. This enriching research experience sparked my interest in plant science and led me to pursue a Master’s degree in Plant Sciences at the University of Bonn. Motivated by the global transition toward renewable and sustainable solutions, I sought out research groups with a similar vision. This journey brought me to Prof. Markus Pauly’s lab at HHU Düsseldorf, Germany, which focuses on enhancing the potential of plant cell walls for biofuel production. Under his mentorship, I completed my PhD in 2025, identifying genes that suppress growth defects caused by wall hypoacetylation in A. thaliana through forward genetics. In a parallel project, I also worked on reconstructing the plant hemicellulose xyloglucan and performed functional validation of cell wall biosynthetic genes in Yarrowia lipolytica using heterologous expression. In April 2025, I joined the Batley Lab as a Research Fellow, where my current research focuses on identifying and validating novel resistance genes in Brassica species against blackleg disease (Leptosphaeria maculans).
